Honors Algebra I A/B (2 Credits) TN Course Code 31023 (A), 31024 (B)
Honors Algebra I will use problem situations, physical models, and appropriate technology to
extend algebraic thinking and engage student reasoning. Problem solving situations will
provide all students an environment that promotes communication and fosters connections
within mathematics to other disciplines and to the real world. The concepts emphasized in
the course include functions, solving equations, slope as rate of change, and proportionality.
In addition, honors level students should expect classroom discussions to be more in depth and explore topics in different ways. They should also expect assessments to be more difficult. Honors Algebra I students will also have a large project each nine-weeks.
