Dear Fourth Graders/ Wizards,
Welcome back! I am so excited to be your ELA and Social Studies teacher this year! I believe that learning is magical and books are portals to a world full of fantastic adventure! This year, we will be exploring some extraordinary places in history: from the Medieval Times to Ancient Greece, and all across the plains and mountains of America!
In Social Studies, we will embark on a exhilarating journey of learning through America's history: from the French and Indian War to the Reconstruction after the Civil War. We will meet many men and women along the way that have paved the path for our great nation through their bravery, ambition, cleverness, and loyalty. These four character traits will be recognized throughout history and throughout your year in Mrs. Rutgerson's class "Houses" (see more in the link).
GBS has adopted an English & Language Arts (ELA) curriculum called "Guidebooks." Guidebooks uses grade-level novels to teach meaningful and important skills through reading, writing, and research- all while developing fluency, stamina, and applicable background knowledge. Wow! I can't express enough how excited I am to see your love for reading grow this year through the exciting novels that we will be reading!
Greenback Simply Loves is our motto and we are going to make this the best year we can. So grab your backpacks, your hunger for adventure, and I will see you all in the classroom!
