This syllabus has been provided so you are aware of necessary materials, classroom expectations, and policies that will concern you while you are a part of this class.

English Language Arts includes literature, writing, conventions, vocabulary, participation, classwork, homework, quizzes, and tests.

SUPPLIES:
2 inch binder
5 tab dividers
College-Rule Paper (if spiral bound, it must have perforated edges)
Pencil or Pen (blue or black ink only)

**Your binder is worth a TEST grade each grading period; keep papers organized in the correct sections: notes, vocabulary, classwork, quizzes/tests, writing

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS:
1. Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings; if you are not seated when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy.
2. Be prepared for class; bring your English binder and something to write with every day.
3. Be courteous and respectful (profanity and other forms of disrespect will not be tolerated).
4. Your cell phone should be turned off and placed in the holder before class; if you have your phone in your bag or pocket, and I see it, I will take it to the office.
5. No food or drinks in the classroom (the only exception is bottled water with a lid).
6. Substitutes will be treated with the utmost respect; all classroom rules and policies apply when I am not here.

ACADEMIC POLICIES:
  • Write legibly using pencil or blue/black ink pen; if I cannot read your handwriting, you will have to redo the assignment.
  • Turn in assignments on time; late work will result in a deduction of 15 points for each day past due.
  • All assignments completed on Microsoft Word must be done in MLA format (12 pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced, heading/header, 1” margins).
  • It is YOUR responsibility to do makeup work; when you are absent, the assignments you missed will be in the “Daily Assignment Binder”.
  • If you miss a quiz or test, you must come in before 815 or after 315 to take it within 2 days of absence; failure to do so will result in a 0%.
  • I offer tutoring five days a week from 700am-800am; I will not offer extra credit until at least five days of tutoring have been completed.

OTHER POLICIES:
  • You will not be assigned a textbook to carry outside of class. Books are to be kept in the classroom, unless you are given one by me. To sign a book out, see me before or after the bell rings for class time.
  • Bathroom Passes: you will be given SIX passes per semester. These passes are the only way to leave the classroom with permission for the entire semester. If you run out of passes, but insist on going to the restroom, it will result in a tardy in the Skyward system (as directed by administration).
  • Classroom Library:
    • Books must be checked out before you take them from the room
    • If a book has an *, a permission form must be signed before you can take it from the classroom
    • Books can only be checked out one at a time for a three-week time period; if you need more time, show me the book is still in your possession and two weeks will be added
    • Books that are not returned OR are returned damaged will have to be paid for or replaced before the end of the grading period
