Learning is a beautiful thing and helping kids learn is the most important job in the world because they are our future. Kids are the future educators, scientists, doctors, nurses, and all the other great people that we need in 'THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE'. I am blessed to be allowed to teach your children and help them reach their full potential and realize all the great things that are available to them with an awesome education.
I am starting my 3rd year at Greenback School and I am so excited to get started because the 1st and 2nd years were great. I will be teaching Chemistry and Physics. I look forward to getting to know everyone and working hard to make this a successful year.
I was raised in Spring City, Tennessee, which is in Rhea County, the home of Watts Bar Dam and Nuclear Plant. I grew up raising cattle, hauling hay, and growing soybeans on a family farm. There is nothing bad about living in a small country town.
After high school, I enrolled at the University of Tennessee to work on a chemical engineering degree and received my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering Science at Middle Tennessee State University. I returned to the University of Tennessee and received a Master of Science in Ecology and Curriculum and Instruction. I returned a second time to the University of Tennessee and received a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering.
I worked as an environmental engineer for the State of Tennessee. I have taught chemistry, biology, physics, and environmental science at Holston High School in Knox County, Rhea County High School, Coffee County High School, and Page High School in Tennessee. I have also coached football, baseball, and girl's softball.
I have been married to my soul mate, Melissa, for thirty seven
years and I have two great kids, Sarah and Evan, both of which are nurses, and I am so proud of both of them. I also have a smart and awesome labrador retriever named 'Baker Knox Smith'; sometimes, he is my best child!!!
I love the start of the school year and the beginning of high school football. It's like 'chicken soup for the soul'.
And by the way: 'GO VOLS'
