2. Also on Thursday, Oct. 30, a representative from Girls Scouts of America will host a parent informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more about participating in Girls Scouts. The meeting will take place at 6 PM in the school cafeteria.
3. Tonight, our high school boys’ basketball program is sponsoring a new event. There will be gift baskets available through a silent auction beginning at 5:30, and then a Cherokee alumni basketball game beginning at 7:30 PM. Admission is $5 and concessions will be sold.
4. Parents & guardians, our school no longer has a clothing closet with extra clothing items. If your child is prone to needing a change of clothes here at school, you need to provide those items. You can simply send your child’s extra clothing items in their backpack.
5. This Friday is Halloween. Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school, but all costumes MUST comply with the school’s dress code. Students who wear a costume that violates the dress code will have to call home for a change of clothes. Please take time to review the dress code in our student handbook which can be found on the school website. Masks are not permitted. Hats are only permitted if they are a part of the costume.
6. PreK and Kindergarten students will be on a field trip this Friday, Oct. 31. They will visit Deep Well Farm in Lenoir City. Parents who are planning to attend must first stop by the school and pick up visitors’ badge. Make sure to bring your driver's license if this is your first time getting a visitors’ badge. If you are already in the system, please call the school this week and the front office can have your badge printed and ready to pick up.
7. This week’s high school football game will be played on Thursday night, Oct. 30 at Rockwood. Kick-off is at 7:30.
8. Go ahead and mark your calendar for this year’s Veterans Day program. Our school will hold a Veterans Day program on Monday, November 10 beginning at 9 AM.
9. Please make your child’s teacher and/or the main office aware if you are changing how your child is getting home in the afternoon. We want to ensure that each child gets where they are supposed to be at the end of the school day.

2. The school library is hosting the Scholastic Book Fair this week! Teachers have signed up for a time for their students to visit. The book fair runs through the end of this week.
3. Letters were sent home last week with our students in grades PreK through 5 about this year’s Cherokee STOMP! This annual fundraiser helps generate funds for things like student incentives, technology, online learning programs, and individual classroom/grade level needs. The STOMP will take place on October 30, and parents & grandparents are welcome to come and cheer on your child during their designated time.
4. Tomorrow, some of our high school seniors will be taking a field trip to Roane State Community College for a college and career fair. Participating students will leave around 8:15 and return to school by 12:30 PM.
5. Next Monday, October 27, our 4th grade students will attend Loudon County’s Farm Day at Sweetwater Valley Farm in Philadelphia, TN.

Come out and support the Lady Cherokee district soccer champs! Our middle school basketball teams begin play this week, hosting home games this Thursday night against Lenoir City Middle. This Saturday, Oct. 25 Greenback School will have three cross-country participants compete in the state championship meet at Victor Ashe Park. Good afternoon, this is Matt Brookshire, principal at Greenback School, and here are your weekly updates for the week of October 13, 2025.
1. I hope that everyone had a nice fall break last week. We are excited to have everyone back as we get the 2nd grading period underway!
2. Report cards for the 1st grading period will be sent home with students this Thursday, Oct. 16.
3. Many of our students are taking their common assessments this week. The common assessments are district tests that help to measure student progress toward mastery at this point in the school year. The tests provide us with important data about student progress, so encourage your child to do their very best work!
4. Greenback School is excited to participate in the WBIR 10Tailgate food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank. Donations of canned and boxed food items can be dropped off at the school, and online monetary donations can be made on behalf of Greenback School by using the QR code found on the school’s website.
5. Greenback School will recognize those high school seniors who participated in a fall sport/activity this Friday night, Oct. 17, during the Greenback v. Oakdale home football game. The senior football players will be recognized before the game, and all other senior participants will be recognized during halftime. This is also a “pink-out” game for Greenback fans.
6. This Friday, Oct. 17 is the deadline for PreK and Kindergarten students to turn in a permission form for their field trip to Deep Well Farm on Halloween Day!

Your food bank operates with 95.3% efficiency which means that $0.95 of each dollar goes directly towards our hunger relief programs! 1. This is the last week of school before fall break. Fall break is next week, October 6-10. Classes resume on Monday, October 13.
2. High school seniors will take the ACT here at Greenback School tomorrow, September 30, during the school day. This test is free to all high school seniors. Seniors will be allowed to leave once they are finished with the test.
3. There will be a Boy Scout interest meeting for students in grades K-8 on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The meeting will be in the cafeteria beginning at 6 PM. A representative from the Boy Scouts will be here to answer questions and provide information.
4. Middle school students who qualified for the reward field trip will visit Zoo Knoxville this Thursday, Oct. 2.
5. We will have a make-up fall picture day on Thursday, Oct. 2. Any student who was absent or needs a re-take can have a make-up picture made.
6. The school will host its fall festival and One Book Blitz celebration for GBS students and families on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5-7 PM.

The middle school football team plays Carter at home this Thursday, starting at 7:00 PM. 8th graders will be recognized at this game. The high school girls’ soccer team has two games this week. They travel to Eagleton tonight for a district game, and then play at home tomorrow night beginning at 6 :30 PM. The high school volleyball team plays at home tomorrow night in a match-up against Wartburg Central beginning at 5:30. Middle school and elementary cross country track team members will participate in the state qualifying competition this Saturday, Oct. 4 at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville.






2. As part of homecoming week, students are encouraged to dress up according to the spirit week schedule. The dress up days are posted to the school’s website and Facebook page.
3. Greenback School will open a school store later this week featuring short-sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts in both child and adult sizes. Parents are welcome to stop by the school to purchase items! We will post the schedule for the school store to our website and Facebook page.
4. This year’s homecoming court and their escorts will be presented this Friday, September 26, prior to Friday night’s football game.
5. The GBS cafeteria sent debt letters home with students two weeks ago. If you receive a debt letter, please pay your balance as soon as possible.

They will then play at home this Thursday against Maryville Christian beginning at 6:30 PM. The high school volleyball team has two games this week. Tonight, they play Maryville Christian at home tomorrow night (Senior Night!) beginning at 6:00 PM. Thursday they travel to Sequoyah for a 5:30 start. Our Cross-Country team competes tonight and tomorrow night at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville. Elementary runners will compete tonight, and middle school runners will meet on Tuesday.
