3. Greenback School is competing in WBIR’s 10Tailgate food drive for Second Harvest of East Tennessee. This is a school-wide competition between Greenback and Coalfield. GBS won this competition last school year against Oakdale, so let’s make it two in a row! Students can bring in canned or boxed food items or you can make a monetary donation online. Use the QR found on the Greenback School website to make an online donation for Greenback School. All donations for Greenback School need to be in by this Thursday evening!
4. This Thursday, Oct. 22 is our annual Fall Festival, sponsored by the Greenback School Parent Association. The festival is from 5:30-7:00 and will include games, activities, food, prizes, and a hayride!
5. Due to the fall festival, there will be NO after-school LAUNCH activities this Thursday. Please make necessary arrangements for your child to get home after school on Thursday.
6. High school juniors will take the ASVAB test this Thursday. The ASVAB is a test that helps identify skills and student interests that might help direct them toward a college or career path. High school juniors need to be on time to school Thursday morning!
7. High school students have their “powder puff” football game this Thursday beginning at 6 PM. The game will take place at the new football stadium.
8. Parents and guardians, we are making progress with our school-wide attendance! Our school has spent a lot of time in recent years having the worst attendance rate among all other Loudon County schools. However, the last district report shows that GBS is solidly in the middle of the pack! We don’t have the best attendance record, but we are no longer in last place. Please continue to help with this effort. School attendance is important for all students, no matter the age or grade.

1. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Cherokee Stomp! The event raised over $6,000 for the school. Funds can be used for student incentives, classroom materials, and/or school-wide events & projects.
2. Our next home football game (Oct. 23) is this year’s pink-out game! School pink-out shirts are available for order. You can find the details for ordering on our school website and Facebook page. The online store closes this Wednesday, Oct. 14. We are encouraging students and staff to wear something pink each day next week.
3. This Thursday, Oct. 15, high school seniors will take the ACT here at school. Testing will begin at 8 AM and will end around noon. High school seniors are permitted to leave school once they finish their test.
4. High school seniors will have a class meeting this Wednesday, Oct. 14 during breakfast break to discuss ACT testing day routines and procedures. Seniors need to be present for this meeting.
5. Report cards for Term 1 will be sent home with students this Thursday, Oct. 15. This morning, September 18, The Greenback Historical Society hosted a Liberty Tree dedication as part of America's 250th anniversary! A marker has been placed at the foot of a Tulip Poplar tree (Tennessee's official state tree) on the site of the former Greenback School. Members of the community and students from GBS participated in the program.

9. We have started a middle school soccer program at GBS this school year, and the coaches are looking for more players! The middle school girls’ soccer season is this fall, and the boys’ season is in the spring. However, both boys and girls are invited to attend practices every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 PM on Cooper Field. No previous experience is required to play.
2. Registration packets for our after-school LAUNCH program should be coming home with your child today and tomorrow, so please check their backpacks. If interested in enrolling your child in LAUNCH, complete the paperwork and return it to the school by next Monday, August 31. LAUNCH begins on Tuesday, September 1. Student cannot participate in LAUNCH without the necessary paperwork.
3. A representative from the Boy Scouts will hold a parent meeting this Thursday at 6:30 PM for families who would like to learn more about participating in the boy scouts. The representative will visit our school this Wednesday to talk with students about the program. Thursday’s meeting will be in the Assembly Room (enter through the cafeteria).

There is no fence around the perimeter of the playing field at Greenback School's new stadium. Spectators cannot have access to the field of play, the players, the coaching staff, or the officials.
Temporary fencing will be used to direct spectators to the bleachers, concession stand, and restrooms. Spectators are not permitted on the track before or during the game.

Make sure to have your football parking pass in your vehicle for Friday's high school football game. You will have to show your parking pass in order to park near the new stadium. The parking lot will not be striped for Friday's game, but we will try to accommodate all those who purchased a parking pass. The gate behind the Greenback Community Center will open at 5:15.
Things will look a little different for this Friday's regular season football home opener at the new Greenback School stadium. The gate behind the Community Center will not open until 5:30, therefore, cars will NOT be permitted in until that time. The new parking lot will not be finished/striped by Friday's game, but those who purchased a season parking pass will still be given access to the area closest to the stadium. We hope you'll come out and support our student athletes this Friday night, August 21!
This Friday's regular season football home opener will take place at the new Greenback School stadium! We asked that everyone be patient and understanding as we transition to the new site. The new stadium will not be completely finished for this first home game, and there will be some "growing pains" as we develop new routines for traffic, parking, and admission. Our student athletes have worked hard to prepare for this first home game. Come out on Friday night and support the Cherokees!
