1. Parents and guardians, we need your help! Greenback School is very close to meeting its annual attendance goal that is set each year by Tennessee’s state department of education! We are very close to our goal with just weeks remaining! Please help us meet our goal by having your child at school each day. We have made great strides this year, and we thank you for your help.

2. We wrap up most spring testing this week! Tomorrow, students in Biology I will take their EOC. High school students in the state-dual-credit Psychology and Speech & Communication classes will take their tests on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. The state-dual-credit exam for US History is on May 6.

3. We have accumulated a large amount of clothes in our lost & found. All items in the lost & found are currently in the rotunda, just outside our main office. Parents, you are welcome to look through the items for anything that belongs to your child. Just check in at the main office. All items left will be donated at the end of this week.

4. On Wednesday, our PreK and First Grade classes have a field trip to Zoo Knoxville. Additionally, we have high school students going to Zoo Knoxville this same day on a Biology Class field trip. This Thursday some of our 4th and 5th grade students will attend the Robert Towns Track Meet at Lenoir City Intermediate/Middle School.

5. This Thursday evening, we have Senior Awards Night for graduating seniors. If you received an invitation, we hope you will be able to attend. We will recognize academic accomplishments and present college scholarships to our graduation seniors. The program begins at 6 PM.

6. This Thursday, April 30 is the last day for all afterschool LAUNCH activities.

7. Only a few of the extra yearbooks are left for purchase. If interested, yearbooks cost $75, and you can pay with cash or check (checks payable to Greenback School).

8. Tryouts for middle school boys’ basketball are this Friday, May 1 from 3:30 to 5 PM. Tryouts of elementary girls’ basketball are next Monday, May 4, also beginning at 3:30. Middle school tryouts for girls’ basketball are scheduled for Monday May 11. And lastly, girls who will be in high school next year and want to try out for the high school cheerleading team need to pick up a packet from the main office. High school cheerleading clinic and tryouts are May 11th-14th.

9. This Saturday, May 2 is high school prom. Tickets are still available and are now open to high school sophomores. Prom tickets are $50 per person.

1. Spring testing, both TCAP and high school EOCs begins this week! Today, students in grades 2-5 started on the ELA portion of the TCAP. These students will complete the ELA portion on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

2. Tomorrow, middle school students will take ELA Part 1 of the TCAP, and high school students will take Part 1 of the English EOC. Students will not test every day but will test off-and-on through April 28 (Testing for grades 2-8 will end on April 23rd). Please have your child here on-time each day of testing!

3. For high school seniors, the Loudon County Education Foundation (LCEF) scholarship application is due on Wednesday, April 15. Make sure to turn in your application to Mrs. Moffett in the guidance office.

4. Our kindergarten students will have their cap and gown photos taken this Thursday, April 16.

1. Many of our students will take their spring benchmark this week, including students in 3rd grade. Encourage your child to do their very best on the benchmark. This assessment measures students’ reading skills at this point in the school year. For 3rd grade students, the benchmark score can impact their promotion to 4th grade.

2. Some of our high school students will attend a career fair tomorrow, April 8 at the Loudon County Technology Center in Lenoir City. This event is mostly for students who have an interest in agriculture.

3. Also, for our high school students, the Smiley Swirl Ice Cream truck will be on campus tomorrow during high school lunch and extended lunch. Make sure to bring cash if you want to purchase ice cream!

4. This Friday, April 10 Greenback School will have PreK and Kindergarten Round Up for the 2026-2027 school year. This is an early registration for students who will start Kindergarten in August of 2026 and for those parents who are interested in our PreK program. 1. This week our HOSA students are participating in their annual state convention in Chattanooga, TN.

2. For our high school seniors, there are 3 scholarship applications due this week. Students need to turn in completed applications to Mrs. Moffett in the guidance office.

3. Students in grades PreK-5th grade had their individual spring pictures and class pictures made today. A picture proof will be sent home in a couple of weeks for your review.

1. We hope that everyone had a nice spring break! We are now in the last grading period of the school year. Encourage your child/children to continue working hard as we approach the spring testing window!

2. Mother nature has reminded us that it is still winter! All Loudon County Schools will be closed tomorrow due to the forecasted potential for black ice tomorrow morning. School will resume on Wednesday, March 18.

3. Our high school juniors, who were scheduled to take the ACT tomorrow, will now take the ACT test here at school on Wednesday, March 18. Make sure to show up on time and ready to begin right after announcements. This is an important test for any student planning to attend college after high school graduation. High school seniors should not report to school on Wednesday.

4. Despite tomorrow’s school closure, the middle school football coaching staff will still hold the player & parent meeting tomorrow evening, March 17. This is for any student currently in grades 5-7 who is interested in playing middle school football in fall 2026. The meeting will be in the assembly room beginning at 5:30 PM.

5. Report cards for the 3rd grading period will be sent home with students this Thursday, March 19.

GBS was on soft lockdown due to a non-school related incident that occurred within the vicinity of the campus. Local law enforcement gave the school clearance to resume a normal schedule, and the lockdown was lifted as of 10:50 AM.

1. For those parents and guardians who pick up an elementary student in the car line, expect a small change in the line-up process tomorrow afternoon, Feb. 10. Due to construction of the new gym, the roadway will need to be kept open throughout the day tomorrow for construction vehicles. Enter as you normally do and someone will be outside directing traffic.

2. All those events that had been scheduled for last Thursday will now take place this Thursday, Feb. 12. The high school guidance counselors will hold a FAFSA workshop for seniors and their families. This will take place from 4-7 PM in the school library. There will be a 3rd grade parent meeting at 5:15 to share information about the 3rd grade promotion/retention law. At least one parent of every 3rd grader is encouraged to attend this meeting. We will also make up last week’s parent-teacher conferences. We will use last week’s schedule, so if you had a conference scheduled you do NOT need to re-schedule it.

3. School spirit gear will also be available on Thursday during parent-teacher conferences. We have youth and adult-sized T-shirts, as well as crewneck sweatshirts and hoodies!

4. Due to parent-teacher conferences, there will be NO after-school LAUNCH activities this Thursday, Feb. 12. Parents – please make sure you pick your child up at our regular dismissal time this Thursday.

5. High school juniors will take the ASVAB test on Feb. 25, 2026. This is an important test as it helps to provide students and parents with information about students’ career interests and applicable skills.

6. Next Monday, Feb. 16, there will be NO SCHOOL for students. This is an in-service day for teachers.

7. Just a reminder to students and parents: Cell phones are not permitted during the school day. High school students can have their phones ONLY during their lunch period. The school dress code prohibits pajamas, house slippers, and blankets at school. Please review the school handbook for more details. The school handbook can be found on our school website.

8. Please help our front office staff by NOT signing your child out of school after 2:30 PM. If you need your child for an afternoon appointment, please make every effort to sign them out no later than 2:30.

9. Please make your child’s teacher and/or the main office aware if you are changing how your child is getting home in the afternoon. We want to ensure that each child gets where they are supposed to be at the end of the school day.

10. Our high school basketball teams finish up their regular season this week. The girls’ varsity team plays a home game tonight and this Thursday night. These games only involve the high school girls’ varsity team. This Friday, Feb. 13, is the last regular season home game. The high school varsity teams host Harriman. Our high school senior basketball players and cheerleaders will be recognized on Friday night.

11. And from the Greenback Youth Sports league. Uniform fittings for youth baseball and softball will be held this Saturday, Feb. 14 from 9 AM to 12 PM in the Greenback School cafeteria. If your child is interested in playing this spring, please sign up using the online registration found on the Greenback Youth Baseball and Softball Facebook page. Then come to the school on Saturday, Feb. 14 for your uniform fitting. Baseball is offered for ages 3-12 and softball for ages 7-12.
